|  | Greetings Friend, I hope that everyone had a nice summer as we move into fall and prepare for some of our favorite events of the year, including our fall Coastal Clean Up & Litter Bugs Me events from September 15th through 19th and our annual Piper on the Ridge tradition on September 26th. I hope you'll join us for one or more of those events! I'm also writing to share some of our latest updates with you from the busy summer. We have been fighting to protect the California coast against relentless federal attacks, like expanded offshore oil and gas, and working with the next generation of environmental leaders who presented in August at our Capstone event. The enthusiasm and knowledge of our summer interns inspire me, and I am grateful that we can provide young professionals with hands-on experience while protecting what we love in West Marin: "My summer at EAC helped my understanding of policy work and the legislative process grow so much. | |  | Interns Share Capstones By Isabel Dawson, Policy Associate Our Legal & Policy and Coastal Advocate interns ended the summer by presenting their final projects at our Capstone Conversations event in early August. Community members learned about Marin’s sea level rise initiatives, Marin Water’s atmospheric river capture project, and digital tools to meet Marin’s marine protected areas.  | Last Push to Expand Protections at Duxbury The Fish & Game Commission will be voting on whether to expand protections at Duxbury Reef in October. Both the California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Ocean Protection Council have recommended that the full extent of Duxbury Reef’s intertidal habitat be protected within a State Marine Conservation Area (SMCA). We hope you will join us in supporting an expanded SMCA and our updated position, which will better protect this amazing rocky reef habitat for over 200 species. This strikes a delicate balance by continuing to allow for some recreational fishing and most commercial fishing offshore while providing the stronger protections needed. Learn More & Take Action
