The killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, and the treatment of Christian Cooper highlight injustices and inequalities that exist within our nation. No one is immune to bias or racism. Often we are blind to our privilege. We are all connected and, in this moment, it is important to pause to listen, learn, and reflect on our privilege and biases.

The Environmental Action Committee of West Marin is committed to acting in an equitable and inclusive manner in our work. We understand environmental and social justice are intrinsically connected, and we actively support our diverse communities to advance a more equitable society.

We are working to address inequities where they may arise. Our team is currently participating in equity, diversity, and inclusion training with a goal to ensure our decision-making fully considers the environmental impacts on all community members. Our Education Coordinator, a 2020 Rising Leader Fellow with Youth Outside, is helping to improve our youth education programming to create culturally relevant and inclusive programming.

We are listening, learning, and standing with everyone working to create a just and equitable future.

In solidarity,

The Environmental Action Committee of West Marin's Board and Staff

West Marin's Wild Oceans Webinar:
An Insider's Look into our
Marine Protected Areas &
Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10TH, 2020 | 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Join us online in celebration of World’s Ocean’s Day/Week on June 10th to learn about our amazingly diverse oceans due west of Marin County with the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin Executive Director, Morgan Patton, and Science Educator, Jennifer Stock of Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary.

We will kick off our GotoWebinar by celebrating Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in California. There is a growing movement to protect 30% of our oceans through an interconnected network of MPAs. Learn more about California's network of MPAs, and how you can get involved to preserve marine and coastal ecosystems now and into the future.

This will be followed by a special presentation on Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary, including underwater footage of deep-sea features like sea corals, sponges and other invertebrate and vertebrate life.

Don’t miss this exciting chance to dive deep (roughly 10,885 feet!) with our speakers about our unique coastal waters and ask follow up questions.

ONLINE MEMBER MEETING, GATHERING
& HAPPY HOUR

THURSDAY, JUNE 25TH, 2020 | 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

We miss you! Since the pandemic and shelter in place orders we have had to change a lot, and adjust how we connect with you in the first half of 2020. Typically June marks the time for us to come together at the Dance Palace over a potluck gathering to discuss member business, our latest work, hear from guest speakers, and honor our community with the Peter Behr Land Steward and Volunteer Awards.

However, we are still working from home, and unable to gather in large groups, and will be unable to host this event in person, but we still would like to connect with you, our committed members, who make our work possible.

We invite your to join us for an online gathering and happy hour on Thursday, June 25th to reconnect and learn more about our current work and successes, made possible by you! We will also discuss how we are planning to conduct important member business, including required board member elections by members like you!

More details coming soon!
