Duxbury Reef Petition Decision A decision has been made on our petition to increase and expand protections at Duxbury Reef State Marine Conservation Area! Earlier this month, the Fish & Game Commission (Commission) voted on a multi-part decision to: - Deny the petition but reserve the right to reconsider it,
- Direct the California Ocean Protection Council and the California Department of Fish & Wildlife to convene EAC and stakeholders to collaboratively develop protections to address concerns, and
- Report back to the Commission every 6 months on progress and good faith engagement.
While we are disappointed that the Commission did not approve the expansion despite support from two state agencies and scientific backing, this alternative makes clear that changes are needed and provides state support and resources to lead a public community process to come up with reef protections. We plan to engage in this stakeholder process to provide our expertise after years of working on the reef, while continuing our ongoing education and outreach efforts, community science programs, and advocacy for enforcement needs at this sensitive habitat. | Say NO to Polluters: Vote NO on Prop 45 We've joined over 500 organizations and leaders in opposing Proposition 45, which hurts communities and the environment. This ballot measure: - Harms air and water quality and public health by gutting the California Environmental Quality Act, which requires that harm to air, water, and wildlife be disclosed and reduced before projects are approved.
- Fast-tracks costly polluting projects, like data centers, forest clear-cutting, dams, CO2 pipelines, freeway expansions, landfill gas facilities, & luxury housing in high fire risk areas.
- Silences community voices in favor of corporate developers, so that decisions about what gets built near homes, schools, and water supplies are made with less information, less public input, and fewer ways to protect yourself.
- Costs taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars as they foot the bill for pollution clean-up instead of corporations.
This November, vote NO on Prop 45 to protect public health and the environment! Share this info with your friends, family, & community, or endorse a no vote. |

Protect California's Bobcats by 11/1! Through November 1st, you have an opportunity to voice your opposition to reopening a hunting season for California’s bobcats. Assembly Bill 1254, passed in 2020, made it largely illegal to hunt, trap, or otherwise take bobcats in California. The legislation directed the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to create a bobcat conservation and management plan before bobcat hunting could be reconsidered. The draft plan has now been released. This could open the door for the Fish and Game Commission to consider bringing back a bobcat hunting season—which is why we should continue voicing our opposition. There is broad bipartisan opposition to bobcat trophy hunting, with one poll finding nearly 70% of California voters opposed. Sample Talking points: - While the 2026 Bobcat Population Monitoring Project reports a stable statewide population, it also finds lower densities of bobcats in major wildfire scars. This habitat loss and fragmentation will impose additional stressors on bobcats that will likely increase with climate change.
- Bobcats keep rodent and rabbit populations in check, without the need for rodenticides.
- Among California voters, there is broad, bipartisan opposition to bobcat trophy hunting. As a Californian, I value seeing bobcats in the wild and for the ecosystem services they provide.
