Dear Friend, In times when good news seems few and far between, I am excited to share some good news with the EAC membership. Board of Directors: Election Update Thank you to everyone who returned their mail-in ballots to elect our Board of Directors. I am pleased to report our full slate of Directors have been elected or reelected to three-year terms. Congratulations to Ken Drexler, Cynthia Lloyd, Jerry Meral, David Wimpfheimer, and Mairi Pileggi. Since our founding, the EAC membership has met annually each summer to share a meal; elect our Board of Directors; hear updates on EAC’s work; recognize our team of volunteers; and honor a community member with EAC’s Peter Behr Steward of the Land Award for their work to protect Marin’s lands, waters, and biodiversity. Unfortunately, due to COVID, our annual celebration had to be modified for public health and safety. This impacted our ability to connect with our members in person, recognize our volunteers and Peter Behr Steward of the Land awardee, and elect our Board of Directors. In response, we held our membership meeting online on June 25th. In 2021, we are planning to recognize our Peter Behr Steward of the Land awardee along with our volunteers, as we feel this is important to do in person. Regrettably, we were not able to elect our Board of Directors online (due to our Bylaws and the California Corporations Code), and needed to elect our board by member mail-in ballot. I am thrilled at our response rate for the election mailing! We received enough votes within the first few weeks to fully elect our directors and were pleased to see the votes continue coming in all the way through this week with the postmark of July 17th. We are planning on updating our Bylaws in 2021 to allow greater flexibility for online voting. EAC Office Relocation After 20 years in our office at 65 Third Street #14, and two years searching for a new space, I am happy to report we have moved two doors down to suite #12. For the last two years, our team has been searching for new office space in downtown Point Reyes Station that would properly accommodate our team, allow for a mixed-use space that can be used for public and member events, and meet our budget. In early July, our neighbor relocated and created a unique (and interestingly timed) opportunity for us to move just two doors down. Unfortunately, as of last week, our office is closed to staff and the public, as Marin County is currently on the State’s COVID Watch List. We will continue to keep you posted as new developments arise. Our team continues to work remotely and looks forward to the day we can reopen our office operations safely. Please remember to do your part to flatten the curve by wearing your face coverings and avoiding gatherings with people outside of your household or social bubble. We can't wait to start planning! Our new space in suite #12 provides us with some exciting possibilities as we gear up to celebrate EAC’s 50th anniversary next year. I will send out more updates on our office relocation in the coming weeks and months, as we are taking advantage of this time to plan and map out our new space design and needs. If you are interested in helping with this effort, please let me know. Thank you for your continued support and participation in our mailed board election. Our membership community is vital for our continued work now and into the future protecting the irreplaceable lands, waters, and biodiversity of West Marin. In good health, |
