Subject: Measure A Funding Allocations

Message:

Dear Supervisors, Thank you for considering the renewal of Measure A Sales Tax Funds. This funding is critical to support public lands in the County; however, the funding allocations need an adjustment to adapt to the challenges our community faces in the face of the climate crisis, continued degradation of biodiversity and habitats, preservation of Coast Miwok cultural sites, and providing equitable access and opportunities for community members to visit, steward, and enjoy the public lands Marin County has to offer. Please consider folding into the new funding allocations the below priorities: ● Preservation of Coast Miwok cultural sites. ● Acquisition and restoration of land and wetlands that are important for sequestration of Greenhouse Gases, to mitigate the effects of climate change. Acquisition funding should at least be equal to the existing Measure A. ● Protection of Marin biodiversity hotspots ● Equity in Outdoor Education. Take classes and other groups of underprivileged children to county, state and federal parks and open space. ● Public access to publicly owned lands for low income people. ● Acquisition of lands at high fire risk to prevent development of those lands ● Marin Parks and Open Space Department already spends nearly $2 million a year on fire work. This plus the $19 million per year provided by Measure C is enough. Measure A should be devoted entirely to the programs listed above. Thank you for considering my comments,
